The Vivo Prediabetes Study is the result of a collaboration between Vivo and research scientists at Duke Medical School. In the meantime, we are proud to share an opportunity to support Vivo’s research study with the National Institute on Aging(NIA), one of the 27 Institutes and Centers of NIH. More details will be provided later this fall. OLLI at Duke is partnering with Duke graduate and CEO of Vivo, Eric Levitan, to offer a unique online exercise course for OLLI’s Winter term. OLLI instructors appreciate you taking the time to provide them feedback that is candid, specific, and considerate. This feedback is helpful to instructors in making mid-course adjustments or deciding what they might change if they teach the course again. Click here to watch the following two videos: In recognition of OLLI’s 45th Anniversary, OLLI commissioned Jim McQuaid of Turnip Video to produce videos celebrating the founders, instructors and OLLI Presidents/Bill Wright Award winners who made outstanding contributions to DILR/OLLI at Duke. Next week we will highlight the recipients of the Director’s Awards. Given this was our first gathering since COVID, Chris McLeod also recognized Ginny Knight who was awarded the Bill Wright Award in 2020, and Beth Anderson and Howard Koslow who received the award in 2021. Clearly, Marion’s contributions are outstanding and numerous, and her over-the-top service warrants OLLI’s highest recognition. This summer Marion invested hundreds of hours editing three videos celebrating OLLI’s history that will be preserved as part of OLLI’s historical records in the Duke Archives. She recruited friends and family members to enroll in OLLI courses and has been a regular participant in the Courageous Conversations Special Interest Group. She has identified guest speakers to ensure our courses include diverse voices and perspectives. In addition to supporting OLLI through the seismic changes and the COVID related shift to online courses, Marion has led efforts to recruit more diverse instructors to teach for OLLI. ![]() Now in her third year as President of OLLI’s Board of Advisors, Marion’s tremendous investment of energy is yielding impressive returns. In Winter 2020, she taught Examining Racial Equity: Durham Public Schools over the past 50 years, together with Sue Dennison. In addition to serving as a moderator for several courses, Marion was also an instructor. She joined OLLI in 2016 and two years later she became a member of the OLLI Board of Advisors. Recipients have often been presidents or have served in more than one capacity during the tenure of their involvement (e.g., officers, board members, committee chairs, instructors, activity leaders, etc.). The award recognizes outstanding service to OLLI over several years. ![]() The award was created in 1998 and named after a former president of DILR “who did just about everything there was to do around here” according to Sara Craven, OLLI director 1987- 2006. At our Instructor & Volunteer Appreciation Reception at the Washington Duke Inn on September 21, Chris McLeod presented OLLI Board of Advisors’ President Marion Jervay with the Bill Wright Distinguished Service Award, in recognition for her outstanding contributions to OLLI. ![]()
